Fraxel Repair CO2 Fractional Resurfacing FAQ's

Fraxel Repair Recovery and Healing

How long does Fraxel repair recovery usually last? Can you break down the recovery time for me, like how long until you can be seen in public, wear makeup, look completely normal etc.?

Fraxel recovery time depends on treatment strength

Fraxel recovery can take as little as 3 to 4 days (for a lighter treatment) and up to 10 days (for a deep treatment). The type of treatment you will need depends on the amount of sun damage and wrinkling we are trying to repair. The recovery is not painful however the skin is pink to red and peels on the second or third day. Most patients are able to return to work by the 4th or 5th day after treatment. Although the skin can remain pink for 1 to 3 weeks (depending again on the depth of your treatment), but it is ok to wear makeup to cover up the redness.

Can Fraxel Be Used on Dark or Hispanic Skin Types?

Can this laser be used on a dark skinned person? I'm 23, Latino male, with some hyperpigmentation and some depressed scars. I have been looking for some kind of treatment but most doctors won't recommend much since my skin has a dark tone.

Fraxel laser is not good for dark skin tones, but fillers are a good option

Unfortunately, the advice you received is correct. People with darker skin tones (darker Caucasians tones, Latinos, Asians and African Americans) are not good candidates for aggressive laser procedures that are necessary to treat deep acne scarring. Furthermore, less aggressive treatments, such as light chemical peels and microdermabrasion, are ineffective at treating acne scars.

However, the newer fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, are effective at filling in and smoothing many acne scars in darker skinned patients. Yes, this is temporary and has to be "touched up" about once a year, but it is still a good option for darker skinned patients who are not good candidates for the laser.

Red Spot After Laser Treatment for Broken Blood Vessel

I had 1 laser (Co2 I believe it was) treatment on my nose for a small broken blood vessel. After the procedure the skin felt and looked burned almost like a cigarette burn and a scab formed.it took 2 weeks for the wound to heal and now the surface of the skin looks good but the whole area where she used the laser is pink/red.will this redness go away? It's been 3 weeks since the procedure.

Redness from laser for blood vessel takes time to heal

It would be unusual to use a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser to treat a broken blood vessel on the nose. Most commonly, we use either a pulse dye or KTP laser, which specifically targets the red blood and minimizes any damage (burning) of the overlying or surrounding skin. The pink red color of the healing skin is normal and it should get better with time.

How Long Does It Take for my Skin to Recover?

This is day number 5 and my face is peeling very slowly , I have some scratches from the procedure itself that scares me a lot, My face has experienced no redness at all except the first 2 days , my chin flaked off and the new skin isn't red it's white and my skin seems to be flaking off slowly , is it normal? or should I worry? I'm so scared please answer me.

This is normal, length depends on how aggressive your treatment was

This is normal, the length of healing time depends on how aggressive your treatment was. I would suggest following up with your physician. But normally my patients have at least 1 full week of downtime.

Vbeam® Pulsed Dye Laser FAQ's

Will Vbeam® Help with Acne?

I want to go get Vbeam treatments for my redness. I also have some acne that is stubborn. I have heard that V Beam can help acne too. If I get the V Beam for the redness, will it also help my acne? Or do they use it differently for redness than they do for acne? Thanks.

Vbeam will help acne

Yes. The VBeam can be used as part of a procedure called photodynamic therapy or PDT. In this procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin and after a waiting period of a few minutes, the VBeam laser is used to activate the solution. The effect of this is to kill the bacteria that cause acne, resulting in an improvement in complexion.

Can the VBeam Improve Skin Texture?

Is the VBeam laser treatment good for improving skin texture?

VBeam will not improve skin texture much, works best for treating redness

The VBeam will not improve your skin texture that much. The VBeam is best for treating redness from rosacea and broken capillaries on the face. It also works well for:

  • Vericose veins on the legs
  • Thick red scars
  • Some warts

Will 10 Month Old Need to Be Sedated to Treat Cherry Angioma Under Eye w/ PDL Laser?

It's a very small cherry angioma about 1/2" under her eye.

May not need to be treated, also other treatment options

Well there are a couple of issues here. First, most angiomas of infancy resolve spontaneously so a small angioma probably does not even need to be treated. However if the lesion is growing, has ulcerated or is causing impairment of the visual field then treatment is indicated. Often topical anesthetic cream will be enough to numb a small lesion so sedation is not necessary before laser. Also, there is very good data that treatment with the drug propranolol will cause many angiomas to go away and laser treatment may not even be needed.

Is $1,000 for a Full-face Pulse Dye Laser Treatment Too Much when Treating Rosacea?

A very well known dermatologist quoted me $1,000 to treat my entire face with a V Beam laser. I have rosacea and would like my entire face treated. This dermatologist is very well regarded, but he isn't Dr. Perricone either. Is this price too high?

Higher than normal

I think that fee is higher than usual. My normal fee for a full face treatment is $500.

Does V-beam Work for Veins on Side of Nose?

IPL Was Unsuccessful for Rosacea Redness. Pulsed Dye an Option?

I have persistent redness in my cheeks and nose. I've tried 3 IPL sessions at a local business, with no results other than a patchy beard. I'm frustrated and I need options! I work as a Reserve Firefighter, so downtime is a concern. Do I have any more options? I've tried Topicals, Orals, everything! The redness is still at large. Thanks for your help!

Yes, PDL works much better for rosacea

Pulsed dye laser is a much better option to treat rosacea, it is just that most offices do not own one so try and make their IPL machines work. If you are in the LA area feel free to come see me for a consultation, I am one of the 6 offices in Los Angeles to own a Vbeam pulsed dye laser, the top of the line for PDL.

Laser Tattoo Removal FAQ's

Laser Tattoo Removal Scar

When getting the laser removal for tattoos, does it leave a scar and will it get rid of the tattoo completely?

Alexandrite laser is great for tattoo removal

We mostly use the Alexandrite ("Alex") laser for tattoo removal. This laser does an excellent job of removing most dark green ink used in tattoos. Most patients do not experience permanent pigment changes or scarring, however patients with darker skin types do have a higher chance of darkening or even lightening with tattoo removal. If your tattoo is very densely pigmented or has multiple colors then more treatments will be needed (sometimes up to 10) and the tattoo may never be 100% removed. In these cases, some patients will opt to tattoo over the old tattoo once we have removed all the pigment possible.

Is This Normal or is my Tattoo Removal Specialist Not Doing a Good Job?

The tattoo is completely black ink, consists of 5 small symbols across my chest, has only had 1 touch up, and is over 2 years old. I am young, with pale white skin. I had 5 laser treatments so far and seem to bleed a lot. Yet the only difference I've seen are tiny white dots forming in the tattoo. You can't see a difference at all unless you look at it closely and it's not fading well. Am I doomed, should I have more patience, or should I try seeing a different specialist? Thank you.

Bleeding and minimal results after tattoo removal

The first question I would ask is who is performing the removal? It should be a board-certified dermatologist because they are truly the specialists. The bleeding does not seem normal. I would discuss this with your doctor.

I've Recently Had my First Tattoo Removal Laser Session Done and I Have Seen VERY Minimal Results, Is that Typical?

Laser used is AlexTriVantage Various shades of black colored tattoo Little to no difference after 5 weeks of first treatment Tan/olive skin complexion Have not tanned or smoked since first treatment Have been following proper aftercare instructions Tattoo area is shoulder blade/back/ and rib cage area 550$ per treatment

Typical results after one laser tattoo removal session

Removing a tattoo is a long process with many treatments. You will not begin to see results after one treatment. On some tattoos, it can take between 10-15 treatments to remove a tattoo. It depends on the ink and the settings of the laser. It is important to be patient and give it time.

Can Most Tattoos Be Removed with Laser Tattoo Removal Therapy?

I have a large red and green flower tattoo on the outside of my ankle (above the bone, a little higher on my leg) and a dark green butterfly on the top of my foot. The flower is filled in with quite a bit of ink while the butterfly is just an outline. They are both about 2 years old. Is it likely that these tattoos could be removed or are there special considerations because of their location and color?

Yes, but the color of the tattoo will be difficult

Yes, your tattoos can be removed with laser tattoo removal but they are difficult colors so you need to make sure to go to an expert who has the right laser for the colors.

Will Laser Get Rid of "Permanent Brow Liner Tattoo"?

I had my brows done 3 mths ago, they were tattooed higher than my natural sparse and narrow brows, the left one looks good-I think it opens up my face, but the right one is higher than the left and is asymmetrical and makes my face look angry. I have seen the tattooist's before and afters and they all looked good. I know that ppl are asymmetrical but this just makes it so much more obvious now:/, even though its a light natural colour. If the laser does get rid of brows, what is another solution?

Yes lasers can remove permanent makeup

Yes laser tattoo removal can remove permanent makeup, just make sure you go to an expert as this area is close to the eye.

How Much Does It Cost for Each Session on a Small Tattoo?

I have a tattoo that is smaller than 2"x1". The colors used are black and pink. I would like to know what an estimate for one session of laser removal cost. I know that it will take multiple sessions to be removed, but I would rather not waste a Dr.'s time on a free consultation, if the cost is out of my reach. I know there is not a set cost for this procedure, but I would really appreciate having an idea of the charge. Please and Thank You!

Guess ~$350 per session

I would guess around $350 per session. It will probably take at least 4 sessions, and possible more as pink is a difficult color to remove.

What Machines Do the Salon Use for Tattoo Removal?

What machines do the salon to use for tattoo removal? Whether safe or not and how much money use?

I suggest a board-certified dermatologist

I suggest going to a board-certified dermatologist. I'm not sure who at a salon would be performing the treatments, but laser tattoo removal can have complications so i would advise against going anywhere without a board certified dermatologist on premise.

Rough Estimate for Number of Treatments and Cost?

I currently live in Austin, TX and have a small 1 x 2 inch tattoo of a awareness ribbon that’s outlined in black (fine outline) and filled in with a purple. I was wondering if there’s a rough estimate in cost and number of treatments..?

Perhaps 4-5 treatments

4-5 treatments might do it. Although sometimes it can be done in less, and sometimes it requires more sessions. Cost at my office would be ~$450 per session.

Is It Possible to Remove Light Blue Butterfly with Black Colour Around It?

Yes it is possible, just find an expert
